New Zoot Ultra TT

Today I went and bought a pair of Zoot Ultra TTs. I am super excited about it. They are not exactly the ones that I wanted, but they were 2nd on my list. I decided that I was going to get a pair of racing shoes for my season this year since I will be due for another pair about half way through the season. I have a pair of Asics I bought and only used for about 50 miles last season, so those will be my training shoes this year and the Zoots for my racing. Cant wait to really try them out. I got my 1:45 bike in yesterday and got 9 miles in today on the treadmill followed by a 30 min bike. My legs are tried and are on the verge of hurting. I went to the botanical center today for the winter blues thing. It was so nice to sit in the warm summer like atmosphere. It was nice that the sun was shining. I sat in the sun up on the balcony. The only thing to make it better would have been someone giving me a massage. I was so relaxed there I almost fell asleep. Great event, definatly recommend it to anyone suffering from winter blues or if you just want to go and sit in the sun and listen to music.

Awesome...that is all I can say

The last 2 weeks have been awesome for my training. I had my first 2 hour trainer ride last Saturday with a half hour run after followed by a 9 mile run on Sunday with a 30 min bike after. The rest of the week and last week have been excellent. I got a couple 1+ hour rides in, some great swims and productive runs. I have made all of my workouts and felt great doing them. I hope I can keep this up for the next 8 months. Today I will have a 1:45 bike and tomorrow I am actually going to have to run inside on the treadmill because it is going to be cold. I have a 1:20 run followed by a 40 min bike. I need to start working in a 3rd swim workout which I am finding hard to do on the day that I want to. I think I am going to have to break down and actually go to the downtown Y. Just once a week, I should be able to handle that. I am also finding out it is much easier to get my workouts in when I don't have any other outside distractions. I have been able to get home after my workouts and be productive in getting cleaning and paper work done. I am going to the Botanical Center on Sunday for the winter blues thing. It should be fun and relaxing. A great way to rewind after my workout and warm up from the cold. My birthday is coming up. Planning to get a great massage. I can't wait for it!

Another triathlon to add to the list

So the other day I got an email from the people that put on the Hickory Grove Triathlon. In this email, it annouces they are going to be putting on a brand new triathlon. That is great. My first thought was, it is going to be in the middle of the summer at a time when I don't need to be doing another race. Wrong, this race is May 31st, the day after the Dam to Dam. As I review this race, they are having both a sprint distance and an olympic distance. It is going to be help by Boone at the place they have the Iowa games triathlon. I did the Iowa games tri last year and it was such a fast race. So now after reviewing my schedule, I decided that I am going to sign up for the olympic distance race. It worked out great for me. Saturday I will run the Dam to Dam 20k and then Sunday do the Bluff Creek Olympic distance Triathlon. This is 2 weeks before Kansas 70.3 so I will do those 2 races and then start my 2 week taper for Kansas. The season needs to hurry up and get here so I quit adding more races. I am getting so excited to start racing again!!!!

A well deserved day off

This week has been great for me. This is the first time in a long time I was able to finish my workouts. Monday was great swim and lift, Tuesday I sat on my trainer at home and ran outside with my dog. Wednesday, I could tell it had been 3 weeks that I havent really pushed myself because my legs were exhausted. I jumped in the pool after the spin class and only got my warm up in before I quit because I was so wore out. I figured I was doing more harm than good by swimming tired. Thursday I ran with the DSM Tri/Zoom performance group in the hills south of Grand. I met 2 new triathletes. It was fun to have a nice run with other people. Tonight is a well deserved day off. I am trying to decide for tomorrow if I want to go to the gym and do the 45 min spin class and bike there for another hour or just stay home and do the 1:45 bike ride and then go to the gym later to lift. Hope the roads stay clear for Sunday so I can get my long run in outside. I love doing my long runs outside now because the trails are so peaceful. Tonight I am staying in and hooking up my new netflix instant box so that I can watch them instantly on my tv. It is going to be exciting and a great night to do it.

Week 4

Week 7 has started out very good. The last 3 weeks have not been so good. Lets jump all the way back to the week before Christmas. I was on vacation and ran a few days and after that, nothing the rest of the week. Sunday I did get in a good run. Monday before Christmas I did get a great swim and lift in. Tuesday I started getting sick and took the day off figuring I had Thursday thru Sunday to workout. Wrong, I got really sick Wednesday and was still sick Thursday. Friday I felt better but not enough to do anything. I drank to much Friday night and slept until 5 pm the next day. Great progress. Sunday I did manage to do 8 miles at an 8:30 pace average which I was super happy about considering how I was feeling the whole last week. Now we are in the last week of December, week 3 of doing nothing. Monday night I went shopping because I got my bonus. I bought a new plasma tv and stayed home and played with that the rest of the night. Tuesday night, I got my heart broke. Of course I didn’t feel like working out Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (I was super hung over this day too), Friday and Saturday. Sunday came and I was feeling better, but spent the day cleaning because I hadn’t done anything other than watch tv and sit on the couch for the last 4 days. I even slept there a couple nights. So now that brings me up to yesterday where I decided to get my head out of the clouds and really focus. Had another great swim and lifted a lot. Just the right amount of sore today. Tonight I am going to run outside and come home and jump on my trainer at home. The Y got these different stationary bikes that I super hate and I cant get into the spin room so I bike at home now. I also have realized the in the last week that I need a change in my life and need to find someone to workout with and get to be good friends with, but that is a whole different blog there. I broke down and registered for the Hyvee Triathlon. Decided it would be my best shot at doing really well at it this year. I love the races. Wish there was one this month to get me something to focus on that isn’t so far away. I think August is so far away, but when I look at my schedule and I am on week 7 already. Holy santa clause $hit! ( I have been watching a lot of Step Brothers lately) Need to keep chugging along.
